Rockstar Send 40 Red Dead Redemption Developers Packing

Rockstar just confirmed that they layed off a good amount of developers from their current top selling game ‘Red Dead Redemption’ team. This lay off was in motion on Wednesday at Rockstar San Diego studios.

Steve Martin sent a statement to Kotaku to explain their move on this:

“As is typical with game development, our team sizes have always fluctuated over the course of the development cycle. As Rockstar San Diego transitions from the launch of Red Dead Redemption onto future projects, we are realigning our resources in order to continue to develop games as effectively as possible. We are ensuring that all employees who are affected by these changes are being treated with care. While we have no announcements to make regarding a sequel to Red Dead Redemption, the team here are hard at work on the development of downloadable content for the game.”

Somehow it seem like its becoming a trend to lay-off workers once after they finish developing a hit game. Some other studio better hurry and start picking up the 40 developers or maybe they will band together and start their own studio.

That seems a little odd when they have 4 installments of DLC coming out. Unless they already have those finished and their just going to stagger the release dates.
