Set 4: Ascension of Dragons - SPOILER SERIES!

Spoiler season is upon us once again, so I will be working hard to bring you coverage on every card in set 4. That's right, I'm going to provide a review on absolutely every single card in Ascension of Dragons. It will be a lot of work, but I'm prepared for it. Are you ready to take on this arduous journey with me? I sure hope so, because I look forward to bringing you these previews and reading your comments.

Without further delay, on to the first exclusive Eye of the Vortex preview!

What is Nexus Control?

Nexus Control is a deck type that focuses on abusing and controlling the field with Nexus effects. My description shouldn't surprise you after reading the name of the deck, honestly. Plays who utilize a Nexus Control deck are essentially attempting to defeat their opponent with Nexus cards instead of the standard Spirits and Spells. I love this type of deck, because it is innovative, difficult to build, and it requires a lot of skill to play correctly. These types of decks are what make games fun for me. With that explanation out of the way, let's take a look at our preview card of the day!

A New Tool

Nexus Control was far from glamorous in Set 3; the deck lacked a lot of support it needed to be a reliable deck. I doubt that this is going to change with this new card, but it is a step in the right direction. Nexus Repair gives the deck another way to bring Nexus cards back from your discard. This deck thrives when it is able to place a lot of Nexus cards onto the field, and it makes sense that reusing discarded or destroyed Nexus cards would be a pretty powerful strategy in this Nexus-based deck.

It's Affordable

Nexus Repair has a cost reduction of three; you can reduce its cost to a minimum of 1. That's a huge advantage when you are playing with Blue; it tends to be hard to play cards with Blue, because it lacks core generation. However, that will not be a problem if we only have to pay one core to play this card. Not to mention that this card will allow you to place a Nexus into play for free. This all amounts to making your deck more affordable and quicker. We always want to look for ways to make our win condition go off at a faster pace. This card allows us to do that.

I know what it does, where can I use it?

There are various cards available to us that can make use of this spell card. Three cards that come to mind are Nexis Register, The FortressCrasher Dennis, and The GroundSupport Francis. You would most likely see all of these cards used in a Nexus Control deck. Each of these cards allows you to discard a Nexus in exchange for something. The FortressCrasher Dennis and The GroundSupport Francis both gain five-thousand battle points after you discard a Nexus from your hand. It's likely that you will defeat an opponent's spirits with these cards via their effects, so you are able to exchange your Nexus for defeating a spirit in battle. It is a one card for another card exchange. On your following turn, you can then exchange Nexus Repair to play that Nexus for free from your discard. We have now gained a sizable field advantage through the destruction of a creature and gaining the presence of a useful Nexus ability.

Nexus Register has a similar function, but may be more beneficial. Odds are that you will discard several Nexus cards through Nexus Register. One of the cards you draw may be Nexus Repair. If that were the case, you would be able to take advantage of the situation quite easily. Throw down Nexus Repair and gain the Nexus of your choice on your side of the field. This exchange is extremely beneficial to you, because you are able to gain the ability of another Nexus card for free and draw additional cards. Drawing and playing cards for free can't be bad. Can it? I didn't think so!

Conclusion

Nexus Repair is another cog in the Nexus Control deck engine that will get it running soon enough. It fits right in with all the cards used in the deck. Nexus Register, The GroundSupport Francis, and The FortressCrasher Dennis are three cards that would be found in a Nexus Control deck and also combo with Nexus Repair. I'm interested to see what else this set gives us that will build up the Nexus Control engine into a well-oiled machine.

I hope everyone is getting the most out of spoiler season. Check back at Eye Of The Vortex daily for more reviews and spoiler previews from Set 4: Ascension of Dragons. Good luck to all my readers in all your future deck building ventures!
