Set 3 Spoiler Series!
Battle Spirits, set 3, Scars of Fury is set to release on February 5, 2010. With its impending release comes one of my favorite times in a Trading Card Game, a month of spoilers! Throughout the month of January 2010, the
Battle Spirits community will be given the privilege of viewing many of the cards that will be released in set 3.
Bandai has graciously provided
Eye of the Vortex with six (6) exclusive cards to preview to our audience.
Trio Themed Ver-Thandia
White is lucky enough to receive the spirit, Ver-Thandia; opening up new possibilities for theme decks within this color. Ver-Thandia's text specifies that you will gain an extra core when she is on the field with Ur-Dine and Skuldia. This creates a theme for this trio of cards which allows Ur-Dine and Skuldia to take the spotlight with their under-appreciated talents.
An Extra Core
An extra core a turn is a huge deal! Extra cores mean more spirits and more spells that you can play, and you can level up your spirits faster. We all know how powerful it is to take advantage of Green's plentiful core generation abilities. With Ver-Thandia's effect, you can rake in the cores every turn. If that wasn't enough, let's add Ur-Dine's ability to generate more cores, and Skuldia's ability to prevent any threats from hurting you (or blocking your Ur-Dine). That is a recipe for a lot of cores.
Giant Beasts
From what I've seen in my quick look through my binder, there are two spirits with Giant Beast characteristic. Those spirits are Hercules-Geo and Towermittcrab. Since t only one of these cards that is white is the Towermittcrab, the first ability of Ver-Thandia is fairly limited. It would definitely be nice to refresh your Hercules-Geo or Towermittcrab, as they are both huge beatsticks. You could also use the effect with MelodyBird Crewc, who changes the characteristic of all song birds to whatever you want. Change them to Giant Beasts and you'll be able to use the effect. Still, not that impressive.
Cheap and Powerful
Ver-Thandia is an extremely cheap card. Unlike other cards we've previewed thus far, Ver-Thandia has a cost reduction of two and has a printed cost of 2, allowing you to play her for a minimum cost of one core. Ver-Thandia also sports a surprisingly low level up cost. It will cost you one core for level one, two cores for level two, and three cores for level three. Thus making it very easy for you to take advantage of her relatively high battle points and effects.
Bring On the Themes
With this card, White has achieved solid core generation every turn that doesn't require you to consistently attack. This type of strategy will develop nicely in the hands of deck builders. We will most certainly see a variable of different decks that attempt to abuse the core generation ability of this trio. It will make for some very nasty and interesting theme decks.
